It saddens us to have to report that one of our favorite television personalities have passed on. Lou Myers, best known for his role of “Mr. Gaines” from the 80’s hit sitcom “A Different World”, died Tuesday night in West Virginia hospital.

Tonya McDonald, a spokesperson from Myers’ nonprofit organization Global Business Incubation Inc. confirmed with the Associated Press that the 77-year-old actor died Tuesday at Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia. Though no cause of death was given, he had been in and out of the hospital since Christmas and had recently collapsed. An autopsy is planned.

Lou, who served in the military before his acting career, will receive a military burial in West Virginia. He is survived by his son and his 95-year-old mother.

May he rest in peace.
