In some very sad news, disco queen and musical legend Donna Summer has died at the tender age of 63.

Although no official confirmation has been made, Summer reportedly succumbed to a long battle with cancer, reports TMZ.

In an official statement, Summer’s family would like to celebrate her long legacy and are thanking her fans for their condolences. The statement read, “While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy…Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”

Sources close to the singer says she believed she contracted lung cancer after inhaling toxic particles after the 9/11 attack in New York City. She was working on an album while trying to keep the seriousness of her illness under wraps.

Her career was catapulted to super star status with her 1978 hit “Last Dance”. She was a 5-time Grammy winner whose career spanned nearly four decades. She will be missed.
