This may very well be four years in the making but Chris Brown, 24, has finally checked into a rehab and anger management program following his Washington DC arrest over the weekend.
As we’ve reported, the singer spent 24 hours behind bars following an assault on an over zealous male fan trying to board the singer’s tour bus and take photos with him.
“Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility,” said a statement Tuesday night from the singer’s rep. “His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.”
Although some have speculated the singer may also be battling a substance abuse problem, there was no confirmation that those speculations are true.
Entering rehab may also help the singer’s legal woes considering he’s still on probation from his 2009 assault on Rihanna. It may, in fact, help the singer avoid jail time in a string of assault accusations, a hit and run case that was later dismissed, and a judge’s recent ruling to extend the singer’s probation terms following accusations he hadn’t fully complied with the first one.
Fact is, following Sunday’s arrest Brown may still have to serve some time in jail. However, the mandated four year sentence he would be facing would be reduced given his decision to enter into a rehabilitation center.
And luckily for the singer, the assault felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor when details about how the fight broke out became vague. In fact, we now know Brown may have not been the one to start the fight but may have been assisting his body guard. Perhaps, still not the best move.
As for which facility the singer has entered, details have not been released. Brown is due back in a Los Angeles courtroom on November 20 for his probation status hearing.
We wish him well.
