Because many of us are forced to self-quarantine due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and pandemic, remaining isolated and at home can start become boring. It’s why many are discovering and creating virtual events to occupy their time.

By nature we are social butterflies. Remaining in doors and away from our friends and family can get quite lonely.

But not to worry, thanks to the digital era we can still stay connected as long as we’ve gone wifi and a smart phone. Here’s a list of virtual events and activities you can participate in or host while practicing social distancing.

  1. Netflix Party (Movie Night) –  Thankfully, Netflix has introduced a Chrome extension that allows groups of people to stream a movie or TV show virtually and at the same time. So gather your friends, grab some popcorn and enjoy your movie night. Learn more HERE.
  2. Virtual Happy Hour – As an essential business, liquor stores are still up and running. During your next grocery store run, stock up on booze and invite your co-workers for a virtual happy-hour. Video-conferencing platforms like Zoom are great for setting up meetings.
  3. Girls/Guys “Night In” – After you’ve caught-up with co-workers, invite your family and friends for a little R&R during a virtual girls/guys night in.
  4. Virtual Brunch – Sunday brunch isn’t cancelled!! Simply prepare for some at home dining or order in (breakfast or lunch) spread the word and carry on with a boozy brunch with friends
  5. Live Stream a Virtual Concert. Are you a DJ? A Performer? How about stream a session on social networking sites like Instagram, Facebook or Google Hangouts. DJ D Nice demonstrated how powerful this can be when he hosted a five day live stream of his DJ sessions, (up to 10 hours), and invited his celebrity friends. The sessions drove massive engagement and garnered the DJ an approximated 1.6 million new followers since hosting the virtual event!! Talk about the power of spreading the word; digitally.
  6. Virtual Game Night – Charades anyone? You don’t have to gather around your living room for a game night. Games like Taboo, Charades, Hangman, Cards against Humanity, UNO and more are available online to get a good game night going.
  7. Virtual Book Club – Now’s the perfect time to find time to read at your leisure. But you don’t have to do it alone. Create a virtual book club and connect once per week for Q&A.
