Is Coco Austin Setting Pregnancy Standards Too High? Model Remains Skinny While 26 Weeks Pregnant

Coco Austin needs an award for being the ‘Most Fit Pregnant Woman’ of the Year. The 36 year old socialite, actress and model recently shared the above images of her “snatched” physique and, for obvious reasons, had many jaws dropping at how small her waist has remained despite being 26 weeks pregnant.

In case you’re wondering just how far along is she? She’s six months pregnant. Yes, six.

Coco may have simply been proud to show off her amazingly fit (yet pregnant) physique, however, the photos raise some concerning questions. Is Austin’s display a reminder of the constant pressures women face to attain unrealistic goals while trying to remain in shape; especially while pregnant? And, are these standards at all healthy for the unborn fetus?

While the photos were met with some applause, others were disgusted that the soon-to-be mom would dare share such a photo.

Now, we won’t speculate what Austin is or isn’t doing to remain fit, but, devolving a bit on the daily pressures women face to stay in shape is prevalent. And let’s not forget that she is pregnant, after all. How about just enjoying being pregnant?

It used to be that women were encouraged to wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing, eat a little extra calories, get some extra sleep and simply to enjoy being pregnant. Often, the unborn child’s health becomes less important when the mom-to-be is more concerned with her beauty than her child’s well-being. That is where I believe the focus should be and should remain.

What are your thoughts? Is Coco’s “barely there baby bump” unveil perpetuating the stigma and pressures for pregnant women to still remain sexy?
