It’s just been announced that rapper Lil Mama will play the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in R&B group TLC‘s upcoming biopic. The news was confirmed by one of Hip Hop’s female pioneers MC Lyte.
“I don’t know if I’m supposed to say, but I will,” says Lyte at a pre-Grammy party over the weekend. “She just got the role of Left Eye in TLC’s new movie…”
Prior to making the announcement Lyte revealed she would mentor the young rapper saying, “I’m going to put my concentration and focus on helping a sister who is talented, smart, witty who just had her chances cut too short and that is Lil Mama because she is a talented young woman. I want to see her do some beautiful things.”
She also talks about recording with Mama and working on a sisters record with other legendary female Hip Hop artists.

Not really sure how I feel about this. I really would have preferred they go with an unknown actress to take on the role of Left Eye. Interesting to hear how Chilli and T-Box feel about the decision.

Well Lil Mama is like an unknown artist because im trying to figure out what music she’s known for besides that lip gloss song. If she does a good job that will be a good look for her
she’ll do a great job she does resemble her.
I think Lil Mama can pull it off. Her and Left Eye have similar ways. Other than Natina Reed R.I.P i think Lil Mama fits the bill
omfg, this is gonna be good. chilli recently said they were working on a TLC movie. wonder who’ll play her.
Lil Mama is so desperate for attention. She should have kept her mouth shut until the production announced it. So many bigger artist’s have been shamed pulling this stunt (Blake Lively). Sometimes when you announce too early, and people hate the decision, they can recast.
