Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda: Too Much Booty Not Enough Substance?

On Wednesday Nicki Minaj released the official video for new single “Anaconda.” Although the title is straight-forward enough, I was perplex by the soft porn we were presented with.

Let me be clear, I do not see anything wrong with a woman being completely comfortable in her body and/or showing it off.

I also don’t believe that celebrities have as much influence on our youth as we’d like to think. Frankly, we give celebs and public figures too much credit. It’s been proven time and time again that we’re more affected by our upbringing (environment) and the people who raised us. With that being said, this is not a post about morals, the lack-there-of, and a celebrity’s duty to be a role model.

This article is about, like the title suggests, too much booty and not enough substance.

So you have a fat ass. What’s new?

I personally don’t care for nor do I hate the rapper’s new single or video,. What’s my problem? Its all been done before!

Where’s the originality?

The song is a sample of Sir Mix A Lot’s 1992 hit, “Baby Got Back,” so no surprise there. But women gyrating, twerking, booty poppin and dropping in every music video has gotten so expected I could have written the video treatment in my sleep.

I so miss the Janet Jacksons of our time when we actually looked forward to seeing the choreography and videos actually being about what the songs suggested. The single and video is align so that’s not the problem here but I’m tired of looking at your asses all day, especially on social media and the ones that aren’t real.

I almost want old Nicki back; less sexy and more barbie. Although the theatrics were a bit much, it’s what made Nicki, Nicki. Her image felt more authentic.

I’m not saying cover it up and stop booty poppin’ and droppin’. All I’m saying is can we have more balance please!

What are your thoughts Treat Hearts, have you had enough of too much booty and not enough substance too?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Here are two more outtakes from the rapper’s video.
