After rumors ‘American Idol’ producers were preparing to axe the entire panel of judges earlier today, we’ve just learned, Randy Jackson is leaving the show after 12 seasons!
Jackson confirmed the news when he released this message on his official Facebook page. Jackson wrote, “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
Randy had been the last standing of the original judging panel since the show began nearly 11 years ago. The original line-up included creator Simon Cowell and Paula Adbul. Although Cowell left on his own accord to creator the X Factor US in 2010, Paula was let go after negotiations in her contract did not suit her needs back in 2009.
The show has also seen talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, musician Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez and song writer Kira DioGuardi serve the judging panel.
Current judges, also on the chopping block, include musicians Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban.
It’s no secret, Idol has seen a significant loss in viewers and ratings since Cowell’s departure.
It was rumored last year that Jackson would not be back but his contract was eventually renewed for season 12.
We wonder what will happen to the other three remaining judges.
We’ll keep you posted.
