For a 19 year old, Zendaya Coleman has a really good sense of self and head on her shoulders.
On Wednesday, Coleman expressed her disapproval when a popular magazine released altered images from a recent photo shoot she had done. Taking to social media, Coleman used the opportunity to address the unrealistic beauty standards society has put in place upon realizing the magazine enhanced her hips and torso to appear more curvaceous.
Upon sharing the above image she writes, “Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it… Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.”
It’s not the first time the conscious teen has spoken out against beauty standards presented in the media. Earlier in the year, Coleman addressed some tasteless comments made by E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic when she wore faux locks to this year’s Oscars (read here).
As the saying goes, “if you don’t stand for something you fall for anything.”
We love you Zendaya, well done!
