10 Black-Owned Makeup & Beauty Brands You Should Know

With so much influence and creativity being given to the world from the Black community, it is always important to support Black-owned businesses. We need to support Black beauty brands that have a variety of shades and pigments for people of color. Black beauty brands have been around for years but have not received the recognition that would bring them to the forefront until recently. These are some Black-Owned makeup and beauty brands that need to be on your radar. 

1. Fenty Beauty
Created by Rihanna in 2017. She launched a makeup line “so that people everywhere would be included.” The line features 40 shades focusing on a wide range of traditionally hard-to-match skin tones. The launching of this line caused the beauty industry to keep up with inclusivity of all skin tones. 


2. Juvia’s Place
Inspired by African queens, this line boasts vibrantly pigmented eyeshadows and other essentials. This brand is very popular among beauty bloggers.


3. Iman Cosmetics
Iman Cosmetics has catered to women of color since 1994. Founded by supermodel, Iman, this brand features a full line of cosmetic and skincare products. 

4. Mented Cosmetics
Founded by two women that could not find the perfect nude lipstick, the brand has grown to feature eyeshadows and blushes. Of course still featuring their signature nude lipsticks.

5. Beauty Bakerie
A dessert inspired cosmetics line created by Cashmere Nicole. This line features products for eyes, lips, and face.  

6. Pat McGrath Labs
Cosmetics line from Pat McGrath, an innovator and businesswoman in the beauty industry. Beauty lovers can indulge with this full cosmetic line.

7. Uoma Beauty
UOMA meaning “beautiful” was launched by Nigerian born, Sharon Chuter. This brand was launched in 2019 and features over 50 foundation shades. 

8. Blk/Opl Beauty
Another vet in the beauty game for people of color, this brand has been around since 1994. The brand features full cosmetics and skincare line. 

9. The Lip Bar
Melissa Butler started this brand in 2012 from her kitchen while still working on Wall Street. Butler was tired of the beauty industry’s lack of diversity and unnecessary chemicals in products. The Lip Bar is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand. 

10. Coloured Raine
Brooklyn born Loraine R. Dowdy started this line in 2013. This line is known for its eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks.
