Who would have expected America’s sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon, to be arrested? That’s just what happened this weekend in Atlanta, while in town to film a movie.
Witherspoon and her agent and husband, Jim Toth were arrested in Atlanta, GA Friday night when they were pulled over for driving in the wrong lane. Although it was actually Toth who had been driving, the actress was cited and arrested for disorderly conduct. Her husband was charged for driving under the influence (DUI).
“A state trooper observed that a car driven by Witherspoon’s husband, James Toth, was failing to stay in its lane,” and that “Witherspoon disobeyed multiple orders to stay in the car while he performed a field sobriety test on Toth. After she refused to return the car, she was handcuffed and arrested,” reports Variety.
According to the police report the officer notes, “Mrs. Witherspoon asked, ‘Do you know my name?’ I answered, ‘No, I don’t need to know your name.’ I then added, ‘Right now.’ Mrs. Witherspoon stated, ‘You’re about to find out who I am.’… Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, ‘You’re going to be on national news.’ I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine.”
Following her arrests the actress has since apologized for her disorderly conduct.
In an official statement, released by THEWRAP, Reese Witherspoon says, “I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
