Fall Fashion Trends

Fall and fashion go hand in hand. Now that the crazy heat and humidity of summer are behind us, it’s time to start experimenting with fun and funky autumn styles. And with this guide to the season’s hottest fashion trends, this fall will find you looking and feeling your absolute best.

Cold-Weather Fabrics

Ideally, fall clothing should be warm and cozy, but not bulky. To get figure-hugging looks from more substantial fabrics, search for tailored styles that will insulate without adding bulk. A few hot fabrics this fall include leather, suede (faux, if you please) and velvet. These fabrics work well for blazers, tailored trousers, body-conscious dresses, etc. To add contrast, pair heavier fabrics with feminine touches in silk, satin and lace. For example, rock a sheer ivory blouse with a black leather blazer, tailored trousers and stilettos.

Color, Color, Color

Traditionally, fall fashion was synonymous with earth tones like brown, cream and hunter green. This year, however, fall runaways were lit up with jewel tones such as emerald green, ruby red, deep purple and sapphire blue. For example, top designers like Valentino, Chloé, Jenny Packham and Missoni showcased deep blues and purples, as well as sunny yellows and oranges. If bold fashion is your thing, look for clothing staples in the hues; if you’re more demure, try punching up your wardrobe with bags, belts, shoes and other accessories in these daring shades.

Comfy Fall Favorites

No wardrobe is complete without comfy, cold-weather pieces. This fall, invest in comfortable, yet fashionable, staples like tights, leggings, yoga pants, oversize sweaters and sweatshirts. For extra pizazz, design custom sweatshirts and add a more personal touch to your autumn/winter wardrobe.

Outerwear

As far as jackets and coats go, it’s best to stick with classic designs. Classics like pea coats, trenches and bubble coats may not be innovative, but they will never go out of style. Plus, classic outerwear can streamline your look, and will go with pretty much anything in your closet. To add interest to basic outerwear pieces, add a colorful scarf, an intricate brooch, or a funky knit beanie.

Shoes

Put away those boring flip-flops, because fall is the perfect time to break out the stiletto heels and your favorite leather boots. If you’re not into high heels, consider a new twist on the classic ballet flat: look for cute, simple flats in bright shades and daring fall fabrics. If boots are your thing, kick things up a notch with thigh-high boots in neutral shades, or funky ankle boots tricked out with zippers, studs and other punk-rock touches.

Autumn Accessories

Fall is all about the accessories. From bags to jewelry, something about this time of year brings out our desire to jazz up our outfits with cool accessories. As far as jewelry is concerned, this fall’s must-have pieces include a mixture of punk and antique: think cameo pendants, studded bracelets and glittering cocktail rings. For bag-lovers, look for classic, structured pieces in funky fabrics: a simple box purse in fur, anyone?
