Michelle-Obama-Daughters-Not-Influential

Time Magazine may have been a bit premature in naming Malia, 16, and Sasha Obama, 13, two of their 25 Most Influential Teenagers of 2014. That’s so according to their mom and the First Lady herself, Michelle Obama.

During her appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael, on Monday, in honor of the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, the First Lady expressed her reasons for why she believes her daughters are not worthy, at least, not yet.

“They are not influential,” the First Lady said, laughing. “They just live here. They have done nothing to gain any influence.”

But should the girls be offended? Not so fast. The First Lady goes on to explain her reasons for feeling her daughters are not yet worthy of the accolade but does acknowledge that they are “pretty self-motivated” kids.

“We’ve always had rules,” Mrs. O further elaborates. “No screen time during the week, no phones. Now that Malia is older she is pretty much independent because I want her to be prepared for college when I’m not there,” the First Lady added. “But they get their stuff done. They handle their business.”

“I don’t even think that they realize that they’re influential,” she replied, when asked by co-host Michael Strahan if Malia and Sasha have used the title to their advantage. “I don’t think anybody showed them that article!”

The Obama girls share Time Magazine’s honor with celebrity teens and public figures including Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Jaden Smith, Lorde, Austin Mahone, Malala Yousafzai, Tavi Gevinson, Kiernan Shipka and Chlie Grace Moretz.

What are your thoughts sweethearts, do you agree with Mrs. Obama or are the girls more influential than she’d like to believe?
