The legendary Prince has been enlisted to headline the 20th anniversary 2014 Essence Music Festival.

The festivities will kick off July 4th weekend of 2014 in New Orleans.

On the morning of December 2, 2013, Essence made the official announcement releasing this statement:

“Influential, international superstar Prince will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the ESSENCE Festival with a Superdome headlining performance over Fourth of July weekend, it was announced today by ESSENCE, the nation’s leading brand for African-American women.”

The artist also performed for the festival’s 2004 show, growing the audience by 30% and bringing in a record-breaking 540,000 attendees.

Of bringing Prince back to the super-dome, Essence Communications President, Michele Ebanks, also stated, “Welcoming an artist as iconic as Prince back to the ESSENCE Festival for a 20th anniversary performance is incredibly exciting. The ESSENCE Festival is where we come together to connect to both our culture and our community, so we are pleased to support Prince and the Rebuild the Dream Innovation Fund in advocating for our youth.”
