Comedian, actress and mother Sherri Shepherd, 52, has some advice for women who desire to get married. Do not to settle.

Shepherd recently visited popular New York City radio station Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club to promote her newly released film ‘Brian Banks.’ During the course of the interview, she talked about the importance of being in a relationship for the right reasons.
“I got married for the wrong reasons,” Shepherd tells co-hosts DJ Envy, Charlamagne and Angela Yee.
I wanted the married life. I always thought I want to be married. I want to be a wife… [but] I am not going to settle. And I’m okay. Ladies it’s okay to be single.
Shepherd later went on to admit that she was lonely and not in love when she married her second, now ex, husband Lamar Sally.
“I had a great deal of respect for the person but I wasn’t in love… I wanted my son to have a father because I said ‘he don’t have a man in his life.’ It was also that.”
As for what she wants in a man:
“I want great conversation. I want someone that’s gonna make me laugh. I want somebody that has a job. That is king in their territory. They’re not trying to creep over into mine. That’s intelligent.”
After revealing she’s still open to marriage, despite having to fork over $4100 a month in child support to her ex, Shepherd advises women to get a good prenup and protect their assets.
On whether she’d date and upgrade a man who was less successful [again]: “you can only believe in a man so much but he has to do the work,” she adds.
