Being Rich & Famous Won’t Bring You Happiness

Lamar-Odom-Drug-Addiction-Downfall-Near-Death

While Lamar Odom fights for his life after being discovered unconscious at a Nevada brothel, Wednesday night, the phrase “money can’t buy you happiness” comes to mind.

Although it’s well known that Odom has battled drug addiction for some time, signs Odom’s fate was looking grim became prevalent back in June when his best friend, Jamie Sangouthai, passed away from a flesh eating disease led on by a dirty needle (or several) used during a drug binge.

In 2009-2010 the basketball star was named the NBA’s champion with the Los Angeles Lakers. In 2011 he was also named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year. It was also during this time when Odom signed a four-year $33 million contract with the Lakers, making him one of the NBA’s highest paid athletes.

Odom’s career wasn’t the only thing on a high note. In 2009 he found love again, after splitting from his longtime girlfriend, and married reality star Khloe Kardashian.

After their own reality show spin-off, from the popular Keeping Up With the Kardashians, titled Khloe & Lamar and four years of marital bliss, reports began to surface of Odom’s drug addiction, infidelities and the couple’s pending divorce.

Odom, an only child, lost his mother from cancer when he was just 12-years-old. Raised by his grandmother, Odom’s father was non-existent as a result of his own drug and substance abuse issues.

The athlete has also suffered from a number of personal blows in the past decade when he lost a close relative in an automobile accident, the death of youngest child, Jayden, just six months after his birth in 2006 and most recently the death of his best friend.

Odom’s downward spiral is yet another example of how money cannot bring you happiness until you overcome personal demons. Despite being at the height of his career, a beautiful and loving wife and money at his disposal, Odom still was not happy.

It is important to seek counsel and surround yourself with friends and family who loves and supports you, not only at your best, but at your worst as well.

You mental and emotional health are just as important as your physical health. If you are in need of counseling for personal struggles and/or addiction please get help.

Odom has two children, Destiny and Lamar Jr with ex-girlfriend Liza Morales. He’s currently fighting for his life at a Vegas hospital. It’s also been reported that the athlete has endured a number of strokes and kidney failure after an extensive amount of cocaine was found in his bloodstream. He may have also been taking Viagra.

Although the couple’s divorce was finalized just this summer, July 2015, Khloe Kardashian is said to be by his side. We wish the athlete a speedy recovery and start to making a full recovery.
